Product Overview
Published by Santorella. For some of us, the ukulele conjures up images of tropical Hawaiian beaches, for others it's the music of the roaring 20's, and for some even images of the late Arthur Godfrey playing his baritone ukulele. It's certainly testimony to the versatility of this simple, but very popular instrument the fact that all of these images would not be complete without the ukulele occupying a prominent place in the picture. The Hawaiian ukulele was developed in the late 19th century and became popular in the United States after the Panama Pacific International Exposition held in San Francisco in 1915. It soon became an icon of the Vaudeville Era & Jazz Age of the Roaring 20's. Throughout the 40's, 50's, and 60's sales continued to soar as the ukulele was further popularized by Arthur Godfrey and Tiny Tim. Beginning in the 1990's, the Ukulele experienced revitalization as a new generation of musicians began learning how to play. The late Hawaiian musician Israel Kamakawiwo`ole helped to re-popularize the instrument with new recordings featuring the ukulele and his silky-smooth voice. With both quality and affordable instruments available for players of all skill levels, the Ukulele continues to be as popular today as it has been throughout the twentieth century. 101 Ukulele Favorites by Jonathon Robbins is one of the most comprehensive songbooks for Ukulele in print today. Educators, students, and casual musicians alike will all appreciate Santorella Publication’s signature crisp, clean engraving written in both standard notation and tablature with chord box diagrams for every tune.
