Product Overview
Published by Belwin Mills. Micro-Patterns is a collection of small musical pieces introducing the sounds and devices found in 20th Century Music. Micro-Patterns is not a method. It is designed to be used as supplementary material during the early training of the young pianist. The order of the selections has been carefully chosen so as to present a subtle guide through the contemporary idiom. The concept of patterns in music is not new. Composers have always serached for new sounds and forms of musical expression. In current trends, new sounds are sometimes derived from basic key structures of major and minor modes and sometimes they are unrelated to any key. Unique rhythmic structures used in most 20th Century music often create an unpredictable element of surprise, mystery, and color. Micro-Patterns is intended to provide a creative atmosphere for young musicians. The selections presented will help them discover for themselves, and experience the excitement of 20th Century musical idioms without, however, abandoning the heritage of the past. Level 2 is a collection of easy pieces using a variety of scales. Accidentals, both individual and in groups, appear frequently. Devices used in Level 2 build on those established in Level 1 and prepare the student for Level 3.
