Product Overview

Published by FJH or Faber. This two-movement work is the most accessible of the 32 Beethoven piano sonatas. It is an excellent choice for the advancing pianist, whether student or amateur. Though often labeled an "Easy Sonata" the piece can sound quite brilliant and impressive. Beethoven opens the work by establishing the G major tonality with a bold chord and an arpeggiation. A stepwise melody ascends from the tonic G up to the dominant pitch D. Here the melodic direction shifts for an expressive apex of the phrase, the D beautifully harmonized by a chromatic touch in the contrary motion of the bass. The first movement progresses in traditional sonata-allegro form. The second and final movement is a charming minuet in the form of a rondo.
